(Washington DC, February 19, 2008) The U.S. Virgin Islands Government has retained the government relations firm of Colling Swift & Hynes to represent them on several policy issues with a concentration on health care and appropriations.“The USVI has far less federal support for health care programs than do the mainland states, noted Terese Colling, President of the firm. “This discrepancy poses serious problems for children and low-income families in the territory. We’d like to help improve that situation so all eligible citizens receive quality care.”
The USVI are an organized, unincorporated territory which was occupied by Denmark until 1917 when the United States took possession. St. Croix, St. Thomas, and St. John are the three main islands that make up the territory.
Ms. Colling, who is Danish by birth, has a home and roots on the island of St. Croix. "It is gratifying to represent the deJongh Administration and to be part of his Washington, D.C. team. Governor deJongh’s vision for economic independence, through sound fiscal policy, will help build a future of opportunity and prosperity for all Virgin Islanders.”
“Ms. Colling has a unique, personal perspective on USVI issues, and former U.S. Congressman Al Swift is highly regarded on both sides of the political aisle,” Governor John deJongh said.” Together they make a winning combination.”
Colling Swift & Hynes’ clients include Quest Diagnostics, Inc., Smurfit-Stone Container Corporation, the Paper Recycling Coalition and Media General, among others.
